Christine Slabbert

Clinical Psychologist

Hello, my name is Christine and I am a registered Clinical Psychologist.
I developed an interest in human behaviour at an early age and continue to feel passionate about working with, and better understanding, individuals’ thoughts, feelings and behaviour. I consult with a variety of clients including adults, adolescents and couples.

I draw eclectically from a range of therapeutic modalities in order to best suit the unique needs of each client. Through psychotherapy, I aim to facilitate self-awareness and personal growth, in order to assist clients to manage challenges in their personal, family, academic and/or work environments more effectively.

My Background

About Me

I completed my studies in my home town of Gqeberha where I obtained a Masters in Psychology degree (Cum Laude), as well as a Masters in Clinical Psychology degree, at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). My Masters Dissertation focused on the possible long-term effects that bullying at school may have on individuals’ self-esteem and attachment styles during young adulthood.

My completed Masters Dissertation, for which I was awarded the 2010 Ford Premier Award for Best Masters Degree by Dissertation, was published by Lambert Academic Publishing in September 2010. In addition, I compiled a journal article on the impact that bullying at school has on an individual’s self-esteem during young adulthood, which was published by the International Journal of Education and Research (IJER) in August 2013.

In 2012, I completed my internship at the University Psychology Clinic (UCLIN), where I provided psychotherapy and psychometric assessment services to a diverse range of clients. I gained further experience at the Life Hunters Craig Hospital, where I facilitated the Substance Abuse Program.

Upon completion of my internship, I underwent my Community Service year at a number of placements in Uitenhage. I provided psychotherapy and psychometric assessments at the Orsmond TB Hospital, Rosedale Community Health Centre and Park Centre Community Health Centre.

I have been in private practice since 2014. My practice is situated in a peaceful cul-de-sac in Sunridge Park, Gqeberha.  I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), as well as the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF), and am a member of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA).

My Approach

Strengthening Emotional Well-Being

Therapy supports emotional balance by helping clients understand and manage difficult feelings. With guidance and support, individuals can build resilience and improve overall well-being.

Through the therapeutic process, clients learn to recognise emotional patterns, identify underlying triggers, and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges. This may include building practical coping strategies, improving emotional regulation, and strengthening resilience when facing life’s difficulties.

With compassionate guidance and consistent support, therapy encourages greater emotional balance, self-understanding, and inner stability. Over time, this process can help individuals feel more grounded, confident, and better equipped to manage both everyday stress and more complex life experiences.

Take the 1st Step Towards a New You

Confidentiality and Trust

A safe, respectful, and confidential environment is central to effective therapy, allowing clients to share openly and honestly. This foundation of trust supports emotional healing, self-reflection, and meaningful personal growth.

Collaborative Relationship

Therapy is a collaborative process where therapist and client work together toward shared goals. Through mutual respect and open communication, this partnership fosters insight, resilience, and lasting change.

Emotional Exploration and Support

Therapy provides a supportive space to explore thoughts, emotions, and life experiences with care and understanding. This process encourages self-awareness, emotional healing, and the development of healthy coping strategies.

WhatsApp or E-mail.

As I am in consultation for most of the day, I am not always able to answer my telephone. It is often easier for clients to communicate with me via WhatsApp or e-mail. I make every effort to respond to messages within one working day.
